Society's failure

WE are very quick to blame government, the SAPS, religious leaders and the business community for the failures in society. It is however not their job to be in your house, or in your car to look over your shoulder to ensure that you behave in a civilized and proper manner. Proper conduct starts with you personally and privately, there where nobody sees you. Those are the foundations of family and families make up society.
Unfortunately we live in a country where we have father absenteeism, where we have fake church leaders and where we believe that a school should teach our children proper manners, discipline and respect. Schools should teach numeracy and literacy. The glue that forms the way a society operates consists of you and me, every one of us. What examples do we set? How do we conduct ourselves at home, or in a group? How many commuters travel in a taxi daily and keep quiet when the driver drives recklessly or throws refuse out the window? We keep quiet because we fear retribution. When a taxi driver skips a red robot and kills three children we all say it is not right and leave it at that. That becomes society's norm. Why don't you refuse to travel with that specific driver? Surely another taxi will pick you up. If that driver gets no business surely that will sort him out? When we see drug dealers selling their products we look the other way. When no one sees us, we beat up the women in our houses and molest our children. Surely the neighbours are aware? But they keep quiet. out? When we see drug dealers selling their products we look the other way. When no one sees us, we beat up the women in our houses and molest our children. Surely the neighbours are aware? But they keep quiet.
The solution is very simple. We should stand up and be counted. Many of us are good people. People who can see what is wrong in our area. Why do we not talk to these misfits of society? Are we afraid? If so, why do we not act as groups against these individuals? I am not advocating vigilantism. You do not need to kill or attack criminals, but you can surely lobby and get your friends to speak out. Isolate them and chase them out of society. Teach young people respect and good manners and you will not find pupils knifing each other and terrorising teachers. You and I, the "good" members of society need to stand up and be seen. Without that we will in our lifetime see and experience the total collapse of society as a whole. Is that what you want?
